The National Finals Rodeo is generally held over a two week period in December. This years rodeo will take place from December 5-14.
Held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the Wrangler NFR is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
Sin City becomes the epicenter of the rodeo world in December, when, for 10 consecutive nights, the Wrangler NFR transforms the look and feel of the entire city. Each year, thousands of rodeo enthusiasts decked out in Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots fill the hotels, casinos and restaurants along The Strip. In addition, neon marquees are splashed with the names of some of the brightest stars in country music. The top 15 PRCA contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, bull riding and barrel racing qualify to compete at the Wrangler NFR. Qualification is based on the 2019 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Standings. A field of 120 contestants competes each night at the Thomas & Mack Center for a share of the $10 million purse and the coveted PRCA World Championship Gold Buckles.
Q. When was the first NFR held? A. By the time that the PRCA first put together the National Finals Rodeo in 1959, the excitement surrounding the sport was already embedded in American culture. Over the years, the event as been held in Dallas, Los Angeles and Oklahoma City, settling in Las Vegas in 1985.
